Knitting Goals for 2018

I am not the type of person to make an overwhelming New Year’s resolution each year, but setting goals for my knitting is something I can definitely do! With their “Project Challenge,” Ravelry has made setting some personal goals for 2018 easy. What a great way to start planning projects for the New Year! Needless to say, I spent an entire morning looking through my favorites and combing Ravelry for inspiration.

You might have seen our posts on Facebook and Instagram highlighting a few of my choices for the coming year.  The challenge I have set for myself is to complete at least 14 projects this year of varying size and difficulty. I am planning to knit a few shawls, cowls and sweaters in 2018.   So far, my list looks like this:

With these projects in mind, I knit and blocked a couple of swatches last weekend. The first was for the Twice Ribbed Poncho by Churchmouse. The Shibui yarns I plan to use are everything I hoped they would be.  Soft and cozy, this will be a piece I put on all the time! I need to get this project completed soon so I can have it ready for the beginning of February. Could it be a project of the month?

The second project I knit a swatch for is the stunning Aspen. I tried this coat on when we had a trunk show from Brooklyn Tweed at Monarch and I fell in love.  This is a big project… Twenty skeins of yarn for my size and tons of cables.   This will be a project that is always running in the background.  This project will be picked up and put down throughout the spring as I knit samples for the store.  I hope to have this complete by June so I can be ready for some summer fog!

I’ve chosen to knit this coat in the same color, Fossil, shown on the model . The yarn is due to arrive soon but I was so anxious to cast on the project that I knit my swatches in some yarn I had used for another Brooklyn Tweed project.  My gauge was perfect with a size 8 needle and the swatch was a so much fun to knit.  I can hardly wait to cast on Aspen!

My other personal challenge is to keep up with my Ravelry page (carmelknitter) so you can see the projects I have been working on or have completed. There, you will be able to find helpful notes and watch my progress throughout the year.  I promise to post photos of my work in progress so you can see what I am knitting.  You might even see some shots of Linus in the background, as he is always by my side when I knit!

Hopefully this post will inspire you to think about what you would like to accomplish this year and join the challenge.  Maybe you want to try knitting a sweater, cast-on some socks, or attempt some color work.  The challenge is also a great way to plan your gift knitting; think ahead to birthdays and, dare I say it, the holidays. If you go to Ravelry’s home page, you can read all about the challenge and start thinking about what you would like to accomplish in 2018!

Knit…and be happy,

Ann
